ROKUROKUBI

ROKUROKUBI

❤︎

I’ve always been a big fan of folklore, and stories of weird spirits, ghosts and demons, and so, Japanese Yokai are no exception. After reading some of the stories, and how they still are still very much present in Japanese culture, I decided to begin a series on modern Yokai, taking their stories and imagining what they would look like nowadays.

The first in the series is a Rokurokubi, or long neck woman. It’s a spirit that looks like a normal woman during the day, but at night its neck grows long and they start acting strangely. For this illustration, I figured a typical Harajuku girl would be the best modern representation, pink hair, oversized sweater and all. (Leaves more room to hide a long neck)
